Scotland is plagued by a variety of chronic illnesses and an ageing population. Costs are soaring. NHS spending is ring fenced but homecare and social care are under severe attack. Does the NHS in Scotland deserve a clean bill of health and, if so, why is the prognosis so gloomy for other elements of the wider care system?
